Helping young people make the right choices. --------------------------- Frequently Asked Questions What's It All About? Your Choice Conference is a day long conference teaching Citizenship, directed at Year 6 and Year 7 children, Key Stage 2/3. What Are The Benefits? Your Choice has measurable outcomes and educates young people about Anti Social Behaviour, Life Choices, Personal Responsibilities, Personal Safety, Emergency Services and other agencies. it fits in with National Curriculum PSHE teaching and the Home Office Respect Agenda. How Do We Get Involved? Schools are generally chosen by the agency sponsoring the day and are targetted due to needs of particular areas. Schools wishing to be involved should contact one of the coordinators. Schools, groups of schools or networks can fund their own conference. (Contact us for more details). We currently cover the Merseyside Area, with links in Wirral, Sefton, Knowsley, St Helens and Liverpool Education Authority areas. If you are outside that area and interested in Your Choice, please contact us... What Happens On The Day? For more details on the days activities, see The Day page Where Is It? Your Choice uses local City Learning Centres, currently at Parklands in Speke, Bosco in Croxteth and Ridgeway in Birkenhead. For maps, click on the links BoscoCLC DiscoveryCLC ParklandsCLC How Much Does It Cost/Who Pays For The Day A Your Choice conference costs, on average, £2,500.00 per day. This cost can be funded by a local agency sponsor or by the schools involved. What About Food? Schools need to provide packed lunches for all students, teachers are provided with a buffet lunch. What Else Do We Need To Bring? Schools are requested to bring a gift voucher to the value of £10-£15 per group, to present to a student member of that group who has performed well throughout the day. Due to its links with Merseytravel, Arriva and Stagecoach, Your Choice Conference uses Public Service Vehicles to provide free transport to and from the conference site. Participating students are collected from school between 8.45 - 9.15 am and dropped back off at school from 2.45 - 3.15 pm. Public Service Vehicles are exempt from current seatbelt legislation. Alternatively Schools can arrange their own transport at their own cost. How Many Members Of Staff Do We Need To Bring? There should be enough members of staff to supervise students on their bus journey. On arrival, the students are split into five groups, there should be one member of staff per group they bring, throughout the day, We wil expect membrs of staff to be actively involved throughout the day.. Do We Need To Split Into Groups? One of the Your Choice Coordinators will be in touch with the school prior to the conference to finalise arrangements and will also sort out name badges for each student so that they can be easily recognised and also split into the five groups. Publicity? A letter is generally sent out to each participating school requesting permission to take photographs for future publicity. Risk Assessments/CRB/Insurance? Transport to and from the conference is covered by the transport providers risk assessments, attendance at the conference venue is covered by the CLC's own generic risk assessment and each of the contributing agency has carried out its own risk assessment of its activities. All Your Choice Staff and agency staff are CRB checked. Attendence at Your Choice conference is covered by the CLC insurance and the attending schools insurance. Schools are more than welcome to attend the venue prior to the conference to carry out their own risk assessments.
